Pojia Tsang and Contemporary Magical Realism

I am a contemporary Canadian artist based in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia. I created a unique concept and style in oil portraiture, which I call Contemporary Magical Realism.  It is not about the literal representations of magic, but the experience of looking.

I was raised in an art-centered home and studied both Contemporary Visual Arts and Philosophy at university.  My father, Ping Tsang, was a professional sculptor, and therefore, I grew up in a home filled with sculptures and collections of artwork. 

My inspiration for Contemporary Magical Realism grew from my fascination with Gabriel García Márquez's Nobel Prize-winning novel One Hundred Years of Solitude. I have long been captivated by visual narratives, literature, films, and animation that blur the boundaries between imagination and reality.
